I just bought a brand new bike and I live in Florida where bike theft is very big. I want to get some protection as soon as possible. Comprehensive insurance which would cover theft will run me about 730 per year with a 500 dollar deductible. The Lo Jack unit will cost me about 800 installed and it is a one time fee, no monthly payments and it lasts forever. The recovery rates on a bike with lojack are very good from what I've read, I just want to see what everyone thinks. These are the two options and please only answer if you have good knowledge of lojack and how well it works. The only problem is that it doesnt cover things such as damage during theft, storm damage, and things that the insurance would (Then again it still has that 500 or 1000 dollar deductible). Since most of the companies I've looked at have similar rates, I have the freedom to choose a company not by pricing, but by how good they actually are. I've spent hours searching reviews of all the major players, and I've seen almost exclusively horror stories about how bad the companies are once you file a claim. Geico, Allstate, and especially progressive (defended policyholders killer in court to weasel out of paying out claim), all seem to have a pretty bad reputation among their customers. Now I'm not a fool, I understand that most reviews are written by people who have been wronged. People are much less likely to write a positive review because their company has followed through, as this is what is to be expected in the first place. It is entirely possible that behind that sour review, there are several satisfied customers who didn't feel a need to review their service. Namely, what's the best amount of liability and medical coverage to select. 1) For the liability, I know it's wise to get the best liability that one can afford to cover your assets. But how about if one also gets umbrella coverage. Which i'm excited about, i've never been to washington and it sounds fun. But the problem is.. i dont know very much about how insurance even works. I'm only eighteen, i've never had to deal with it before. I know a little, but since i'm young, its mostly just from the daily show. which is a crappy way to base any opinions i have off of. I'm more informed than most 18 year olds, but i'd still like to know more, if i end up going to this thing. So, can anyone explain to me why they're evil and what needs to change? I'm slightly confused over my car insurance. I took out a 12 month policy in December 2008 (paid a deposit at the time) and then paid by monthly installments. I then continued this policy in December 2009. However I have now cancelled this policy as another company could provide it cheaper. But I've been told by relatives that I won't be charged my monthly fee this month (i.e my pay day tomorrow!) because I have already paid the full amount for the 2 years. Is this correct?

i did a quote online at progressive just to get an idea of how much the insurance would be for a 2005 yzf r6. i am 18 years old had my motorcycles license for 2 years and have been riding smaller bikes for 2 years now the r6 i am looking at costs 6000 with very low miles and an aftermarket exhaust from a dealer and i will be making a 2200 trade in which will go towards the bike but the rest will have to be financed. i heard the online quote is wrong because i didn't use my social security number and is different from the real quote i should get. also the loan will most likely be under my parents name and if u know of what type of coverage i will need since it is financed ive been doing alot of studying but thought id ask on here. i live in wisconsin which isn't a very populated area which should also make a difference if u know anything or need to know anymore just ask thanks alot

How much info does a car insurance company really need to file a successful claim against me?

I bumped into this lady because she actually did a full stop on a green light while getting out of a shopping center. She said it was o.k and that nothing happened and was apologetic saying that a car ran in front of her and that is why she did a dead stop in middle of intersection on a green light. She got my license number but did not call police, did not take pictures and did not get my insurance policy number. Just my name, insurance company I'm with and also drivers license number. She said it was o.k and my info just in case. Thing is when I got back from vacation I got a letter from my insurance saying she put in a claim against when nothing even happened to both of our cars. My question is what can I do? I don't want to pay deductible when it was HER fault. Nothing even really happened. I have full coverage car insurance on my car (for legal/employment reasons), comprehensive, collision, PPI, theft, vandalism, rental, etc. Yeah, its an 99 Accord. What I never asked, and now want to know, is if it just dies (cus its about that time that if it did I wouldnt be surprised) will I get the value of the car? I know I do get its value if it is stolen or totaled or vandalized, but does that apply to car death? Pretty sure if it stopped working the cost to fix it would be more than the car is valued at, does that count as totaling? I am getting to that point where the car may be worth more to me stolen or wrecked. I hate dealerships otherwise I might consider a trade-in, but I don't know why anyone would buy it???
